= TMC System Components = This page contains very high level definitions of the major components of the TMC system. 1. CAD Server[[BR]]The CAD Server is the heart of the simulation. It manages the simulation clock and coordinates all communications between the operator GUI and the clients. 1. Simulation Manager[[BR]]The Sim Mgr is the Operator GUI from which the human operator controls the execution of the simulation. 1. Script Builder[[BR]]Script Builder is a graphical construction kit with which domain experts can create hypothetical highway incidents for use in a simulation. 1. FEP Simulator[[BR]]Simulates live traffic sensor data so the simulation can present simulated traffic conditions. 1. CAD Client[[BR]]The CAD Client is the trainee workstation GUI that presents traffic info and other statistics about incidents that are taking place in the simulation. 1. Traffic Events Editor[[BR]]This tool is a way to manually enter details of traffic flow at various points in the highway network. This is a cheap yet somewhat tedious procedure that takes the place of expensive and sophisticated traffic modeling software. 1. Traffic Events Animator[[BR]]A simple ASCII graphics tool to animate the traffic events for verification by the developer. 1. ATMS Server[[BR]]Advanced Traffic Management System provided by !CalTrans. It accepts realtime data from traffic sensors in the highways and formats them into graphically displayable representation of traffic network conditions. For our system, the input is generated by our in-house FEP Simulator. 1. ATMS Client[[BR]]A graphical representation of the traffic network that shows traffic flows on the highways in the network. Trainees use this information to diagnose traffic conditions and identify problems.
